Welcome.

My name is Sophie Neiman.

I am an independent reporter and photojournalist, covering politics, conflict and human rights in east and central Africa. I’m currently based in Kampala, Uganda, and have reported from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique and Rwanda.

I’m a featured analyst at World Politics Review and my work has appeared in Al Jazeera, BBC World Service, The Christian Science Monitor, New Internationalist, The New Humanitarian, The New York Review of Books and Thomson Reuters Foundation, among others.

I hold a master’s degree in African Studies from the University of Cambridge and am a grantee of the Pulitzer Center. I also have a hostile environment and first aid training certificate from SEPAR international, and serve as co-chair for the International Press Association of Uganda.

I’m passionate about telling women’s stories, reporting grassroots perspectives, and using journalism to confront the legacies of colonialism and imperialism.
